John Calvin Patterson, Accident and Injury Attorney at Patterson & Ehrhardt PLLC

John Calvin formed Patterson & Ehrhardt, PLLC with partner Wes Ehrhardt in June of 2012. He grew up in Jackson, Mississippi, where he graduated from Madison Ridgeland Academy in 2000. After graduating high school, John Calvin attended the University of Mississippi, where he was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. John Calvin received his undergraduate degree from the University of Mississippi in 2005, with a B.A. in political science and history. In 2005, John Calvin returned to Jackson, Mississippi to attend Mississippi College School of Law. He received his J.D. degree from Mississippi College School of Law in 2008.

While John Calvin has a general practice that includes most aspects of legal representation, his main focus areas are plaintiff personal injury and Chancery Court matters, including divorce, child custody, and child support matters. John Calvin is licensed to practice law in Mississippi, as well as admitted to practice before the U.S. Court of Appeals, Fifth Circuit U.S. District Court, and the Northern and Southern Districts of Mississippi. He is a member of The Mississippi Bar and the Panola County Bar Association. He is also licensed to practice law in Tennessee and is a member of the Tennessee Bar Association. 


John Calvin is married to Kate Patterson, an attorney who also practices law at Patterson Ehrhardt, PLLC. John Calvin and Kate have one son, Carlisle. They are active members at Como United Methodist Church in Como, MS.

John Calvin, a Mississippi native, co-founded Patterson & Ehrhardt, PLLC with his esteemed colleague and best friend, Wes Ehrhardt, in June 2012. As a life long Mississippian, John Calvin attended the University of Mississippi, becoming an active member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. John Calvin earned his B.A. in Political Science and History in 2005. The same year, he embarked on his legal journey, enrolling at Mississippi College School of Law. There, he obtained his J.D. degree in 2008.


John Calvin’s illustrious law career includes an influential summer spent on the staff of then US Senator Joseph R. Biden. During his time at law school, he gained invaluable experience at the Mississippi Attorney General's office as well as the Third Circuit of Mississippi’s District Attorney’s office. He further expanded his legal horizons by studying international law at Downing College in Cambridge, England.


While John Calvin is adept in a wide range of legal areas, he specializes in plaintiff personal injury and Chancery Court matters, encompassing child custody, and child support. He is licensed to practice both Mississippi and Tennessee and holds admission to all federal courts in these states, as well as the U.S. Court of Appeals and the Fifth Circuit U.S. District Court. His commitment to justice has seen him partake in several significant lawsuits, notably against the government of Rwanda, advocating for the hero of "Hotel Rwanda," Paul Ruseabagina. 


Yet, for all his global endeavors, John Calvin’s heart remains close to home. He prides himself on offering personal attention to his North Mississippi neighbors, distinguishing himself from larger, impersonal law firms. "I strive for a personal connection with those I represent. If they call, I answer, anytime," he often remarks. His mantra, "Young enough to go and experienced enough to know what to do when I get there," perfectly encapsulates his dedication to his clientele.


On the personal front, John Calvin shares his life with his wife, Kate Patterson, also a proficient attorney. Together, they cherish moments with their spirited son, Carlisle. The family actively contributes to the Como community, being dedicated members of the Como Methodist Church and participating fervently in local civic engagements.


Outside the courtroom, John Calvin’s passions span from relishing live music and Ole Miss sports to culinary adventures and coaching little league baseball. A fervent outdoorsman at heart, he never misses an opportunity to be amidst nature.
